Religious marriage is a marriage contracted in a religious ceremony without registration in the relevant state authorities. Civil marriage is a marriage union registered in the relevant state authorities without the participation of religious organizations.
A marriage performed according to religious rites and ceremonies is not equal to marriage registered with the registering authorities and does not produce any legal effect. Therefore, marriages contracted in a religious ceremony are not considered official marriage at the legislative level. On the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan, marriage (matrimony) concluded only by state bodies is recognized.
